How the CBFF is managed
Secretariat
The CBFF Secretariat will be responsible for day to day management of the Fund and initial assessment of proposals. The Secretariat will be based in Tunis, with technical staff based in Yaoundé and Kinshasa.
Until the CBFF Secretariat is established, the UK Government will act as the interim Secretariat.
The Governing Council
A CBFF Governing Council has been set up to: provide strategic guidance, oversight and ensure broad donor and stakeholder participation.
The membership of the Governing Council comprises:
- 2 Fund Co-chairs – Professor Wangari Maathai, Nobel Laureate and Rt Honourable Paul Martin, former Prime Minister of Canada.
- Civil Society representative from the region
- Secretary General of CEEAC
- President of COMIFAC
- Vice President of AfDB
- Donor Representative
The UK Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for Forestry is also an ex officio member of the Governing Council.
The composition of the Governing Council has been designed to ensure African Ownership and alignment with existing institutions and activities in the region. The Governing Council will report regularly to, and receive feedback and advice from, the members of the Congo Basin forest Partnership acting as a Reference Group.
Reference Group
The Reference Group will act as a forum for consultations around the operation of the CBFF.
It will provide an opportunity to exchange information and learning in relation to the operation of the CBFF and similar or related activities and enable stakeholders to make representations to the governing council.
